YURY TRUTNEV: RUSSIA AND CHINA WILL PRESENT TWO AGRICULTURAL PROJECTS AT EASTERN ECONOMIC FORUM
28 June 2016
In an interview with TASS, the Deputy Prime Minister of the Russian Federation and Presidential Plenipotentiary Envoy to the Far Eastern Federal District announced preparations for joint Russian–Chinese projects and shared his expectations for the Eastern Economic Forum.
The Russia–China Agricultural Fund will present the first projects to emerge as part of its work at the event in Vladivostok. It is expected that two projects will be announced, though details have not yet been revealed.
“On the one hand, there is a strong Russian market for agricultural produce and no shortage of land where food production can be increased. On the other hand, there is near limitless demand for this production”, Mr Trutnev said.
Before the Forum, set to take place on 2–3 September, Russia and China will meet to resolve some of the main questions surrounding the development of the Primorye-1 and Primorye-2 international transport corridors (ITCs).
“We met with the company heads who will be representing the Chinese side as potential partners for the implementation of this project, discussing in turn each element of the project required for its successful realisation: the organisation that will undertake the works, the jurisdiction in which the corridors will be constructed, the method for setting up support and guarantee mechanisms, and the financing mechanisms which will be applied”, said the Deputy Prime Minister.
According to Mr Trutnev, these agreements do not guarantee that the project will be launched at the Forum, though the ITC project will be drawn up in sufficient detail to be presented to the President of the Russian Federation, Vladimir Putin.
Mr Trutnev further stated that a representative Chinese delegation will be in attendance at this year’s EEF. “Russian President Vladimir Putin extended invitations to the Forum during meetings with the Chinese President and Prime Minister, adding that the Chinese delegation at last year’s event was very representative. The response from our Chinese colleagues was positive and it appears that, not wishing to lower the bar, they will once again send a very high-level delegation”, the Russian Deputy Prime Minister said.
