VLADIMIR PUTIN VISITS ZVEZDA SHIPBUILDING COMPLEX
01 September 2016
The Russian leader is currently making a working trip to Primorsky Territory, the Presidential website reports.
President Putin inspected the ice-class tanker Sakhalin, which will be able to receive, carry, and offload up to four grades of petroleum products simultaneously without flash point restrictions. The vessel will be used to deliver combustibles and lubricants to regions in the north and far east of Russia, the Kuril Islands, and to military units stationed in the north. The President also made a familiarization visit to the hull production complex, took part in a ceremony to launch construction of a floating dock, and led a meeting on developing the shipbuilding industry.
Since 2013, the Zvezda facility has been transformed into a Far Eastern shipbuilding cluster for the production of maritime plant and equipment. The construction of Russia’s first shipyard for large-capacity ships to support the extraction of natural resources from Russia’s continental shelves, including the Arctic shelf, as well as commercial vessels to transport cargo on both domestic and foreign sea routes, is planned.
