RUSSIA’S NATIONAL PAYMENT CARD SYSTEM, MIR, TO START OPERATING IN PRIMORSKY TERRITORY
25 August 2016
The Primorsky Territory Administration will sign an agreement with the regional operator, Vostochny Express Bank, at the Eastern Economic Forum, reports a press release issued by the Administration.
The concept of a universal welfare card for the Russian Far East being proposed by the bank covers a raft of services, including the ability to make commission-free housing and utilities payments via the AvtoPlatyozh service, discounts at pharmacies and food stores, and a unique identifier for receiving welfare payments and concessionary transport fares. In addition, Mir cards can be used as ordinary debit or credit cards, as well as with the Gosuslugi government services portal.
“Total investment in the project amounts to RUB 500 million. The bank will install extra card services terminals in Primorsky Territory”, announced Deputy Governor Vasily Usoltsev.
Russia’s National Payment Card System was established on 23 July 2014 as an independent system in response to the international sanctions against the country.
