On 25 April, on the territory of ASEZ Khabarovsk, a new JGC Evergreen greenhouse complex was inaugurated.

The opening ceremony was attended by Emeritus Chairman of the JGC Evergreen Group Yoshihiro Shigehisa, founder of Hokkaido Bank Yoshihiro Sekihati, Governor of Khabarovsk Region Vyacheslav Shport, Deputy Minister for the Development of the Far East Sergey Kachaev and Deputy Minister of Agriculture, Russian Federation, Sergey Levin.

The event was organised in the Japanese style and called Kagami biraki; translated from Japanese, this means “mirror revealing the truth” and epitomises the victory of good over evil.

As Minister Sergey Kachaev noted, launch by the Russian–Japanese company of the joint greenhouse complex is the first example for everybody in the Far East of “how it is possible to work within the ASEZ.”

Other greenhouse complexes are in the pipeline. “In the months to come, we plan to launch another greenhouse complex on 2.5 hectares, to be followed by a third 5-hectare phase. ASEZ resident status allows us to expand our production faster and opens up great opportunities for our business”, underlined CEO JGC Evergreen Tomoyuki Igarasi.

Total investments at all construction stages will amount to about RUB 2 bn; about 150 jobs will be created.
At present, the enterprise grows cucumbers and tomatoes but will soon start growing greens, lettuces, pepper and strawberries and also possibly potatoes, carrots and onions on the field.
