12 September 2016
The ideas were suggested at a meeting between Alexander Galushka, Minister for Development of the Russian Far East, and the management of SoftBank, reports RIA Novosti.
SoftBank has proposed setting up a joint venture with Russian Grids (Rosseti) to start developing an energy bridge between the Russian Far East and Japan.
“We discussed the energy ring project and the first stage, which our President spoke about at the Eastern Economic Forum. It will provide for energy transfer to Japan via the Far East,” said Galushka.
The minister clarified that this stage will involve laying an undersea cable. He added that the Japan Bank for International Cooperation (JBIC) was ready to take part in the project.
