GOVERNOR OF HOKKAIDO HOPES TO DEVELOP RELATIONS WITH RUSSIA’S FAR EAST

A representative of the delegation from the Japanese–Russian Discussion Club of the Japanese House of Councillors has passed the Chair of the Russian Council of the Federation, Valentina Matviyenko, a communication from the Governor of the Japanese island of Hokkaido, expressing the latter’s wish to develop relations with the regions of Russia’s Far East, Japanese Minister of Economy, Trade, and Industry Hiroshige Seko, who also chairs the Club, has revealed.
Minister Seko will attend a meeting with Mrs Matviyenko in Moscow on Thursday.
“The delegation includes Mr Tsigao, who represents the region of Japan which is closest to Russia, Hokkaido. He brought with him a personal communication from the island’s Governor, which conveys the intent of the regional government of Hokkaido to develop relations, not only with Sakhalin, but also with other regions of the Russian Federation”, Mr Seko said.
Thanking her Japanese colleagues, Mrs Matviyenko accepted the communication.
