11 August 2016
The Russian Government has approved a new version of the region’s development programme until 2015.
During a meeting between Russian President Vladimir Putin and members of the Government, Minister for the Development of the Russian Far East Alexander Galushka announced that a budget funding programme for the development of the Far East has been approved by Russian Prime Minister Dmitry Medvedev.
In the current version of the programme, the planned funding takes into account all the new mechanisms for the development of the Far East and covers virtually all the work to be performed in this regard.
“It [the programme] sets forth the benchmarks for budget funding in 2017–2019 in the amount of RUB 46.7 billion per year, which will make it possible to continue consistent work to develop the Far East”, Galushka commented.
During his report at the meeting with the President, Galushka raised the issue of air travel prices. He said subsidies need to be increased for flights from the regions of the Far Eastern Federal District to other destinations in Russia while also noting the positive results from a two-fold expansion in the list of airline routes (from 24 to 52).
