ALEXANDER KARELIN: FEFU HAS EVERYTHING REQUIRED TO HOST RUSSIAN NATIONAL TEAMS IN ADVANCE OF 2020 OLYMPICS
01 September 2016
On 1 September, Alexander Karelin, a triple Olympic Greco-Roman wrestling champion and Hero of Russia, led a master class for Vladivostok’s young wrestlers.
On 2 September, the legendary wrestler will participate in a charity run in aid of the Siberian tiger and Amur leopard and in a panel session titled ‘The Far East. On the Road to Three Olympic Games’. Both events are being held as part of the Eastern Economic Forum.
“As the Forum’s main venue, the Far Eastern Federal University’s campus has everything required to become a base camp for wrestlers preparing for the 2020 Olympics. It has adequate accommodation and training facilities. The university already has wrestling mats and hosts freestyle wrestling tournaments. Its buildings are superb and it has a beautiful park”, Mr Karelin said.
According to the Olympic champion, Russia’s Far East offers unique opportunities for year-round training which do not exist in other countries.
“If we create the right conditions to attract investors today, we will end up with a well-developed infrastructure which will be in place for many years to come, and we will be able to show the world what the Russian Far East is all about: that it has its excellent facilities as well as natural beauty. So when we invite investors to come and work with us, we have good reason to believe that we will be heard”, emphasized Mr Karelin.
