MEASURES TO BE TAKEN TO STRENGTHEN ENERGY SECURITY IN RUSSIAN FAR EAST
02 August 2016
A meeting took place between Nikolai Patrushev, Yury Trutnev, and the heads of Russia’s Far Eastern regions.
At the meeting, proposals were formulated to combat illicit trafficking in energy resources and potential theft during the extraction, transportation, processing, and sale of fuel and energy products.
Measures adopted at the meeting are expected to improve the effectiveness of efforts to identify counterfeit production of petroleum products and bolster anti-terrorist security at fuel industry facilities.
A number of priority objectives were identified by participants at the meeting. These include the active development of the Russian Far East regional gas distribution infrastructure, solving the problem of substantial wear of equipment, and reducing backlog in the construction of new RusHydro power-generating facilities in Yakutia, Khabarovsk Territory, and Sakhalin Region.
In order to ensure food security in the Russian Far Eastern regions, the meeting considered potential import substitution measures.
Nikolai Patrushev, who is Secretary of the Security Council of Russia, will report the results of the meeting to the President of the Russian Federation.
